When you are thinking about remodeling your home, its important to make decisions which will bring you happiness, but it’s also important to acknowlegde the market and whats in style. All white homes look lovely when they are properly lit and staged for magazines, but in reality, all white walls can feel cold and make a room feel less cozy.
If you are preparing to spruce up your old home, or to turn you brand new, builder grade house into the home of your dreams, here are some things to consider:
New Kitchen, healthy lifestyle : A third of homeowners report leading a healthier lifestyle after a kitchen renovation, from eating more fruits and vegetables to preparing more meals at home.
Millenials prefer modern and farmhouse kitchens: While contemporary is the most popular style across all age groups, millennial homeowners (25-34) are more likely to opt for modern or farmhouse kitchens than older homeowners (35+), while Baby Boomers (55+) are more likely to prefer traditional style. Millennial homeowners are also more likely to install kitchen islands.
Beauty of marble, durability of quartz: The look and durability of materials are the top reasons for selecting certain countertops and flooring. Cost is third in importance for millennial homeowners, while ease of cleaning is third for older generations. Marble counters and wood flooring are rated highest for their look, and granite/quartz counters and porcelain flooring for their durability.
An even greater room: More than one-third of kitchen renovators are increasing the room’s size. Open concepts continue to be en vogue, with 51% of new kitchens more open to other rooms and 20% more open to the outdoors.”
Its was interesting to note a side benefit to a remodeled kitchen that I never thought of. Once people have a shiny new kitchen, with a great back splash and beautiful countertops, they spend more time at home. They cook more from scratch and they eat a more balanced diet. We are always factoring in return on investment for people when they are preparing to remodel. I wonder what the ROI on better family time and health is?
